When it comes to your health you can get online and Google just about anything, and you may or may not land on some good information. When it comes to your dental health, we at Arcadia Dental Arts like to offer our patients the best place to come to on the internet for all of your dental health questions.
As one of the most common dental concerns, gum disease impacts more than 60 million Americans (according to a 2012 study published by CDC). If you think you have gum disease, we have created a list debunking three common myths so that you feel more informed.
Myth #1: Bleeding Gums Are Fine
Bumping your gums with your toothbrush and having them bleed is one thing, but having chronic bleeding gums is a whole other issue. If you suffer from bleeding gums, it’s an indication that you may have an infection or even gum disease. As one of the most common symptoms of gum disease, bleeding gums is something to always look out for.
Myth #2: It’s Rare
You may not realize just how many people you know have gum disease because it isn’t exactly something you talk about around the dinner table. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), nearly half of adults over the age of 30 have gum disease.
Myth #3: It’s Permanent
This is so true and so false. In the early stages of gum disease, it can be treated and even reversed with a thorough cleaning and other treatments. If it is in its advanced stages of gum disease, however, it may be permanent.
