Bridges versus dental implants

If you are unsure whether to choose a dental implant or a dental bridge to replace missing teeth from your smile, you are not alone. Thanks to continued advances in dentistry, there are several ways for patients to achieve a beautiful smile after tooth loss. Dr. John Pappas and his team at Arcadia Dental Arts is pleased to provide options to patients for their consideration, and can help patients make an educated decision regarding which solutions is right for their needs.

  • Dental implants – dental implants have developed into the gold standard for tooth replacement. These titanium posts are fabricated to act as a replacement for the natural tooth root. They have three parts, including the post, the abutment, and the restoration that is made for over the top. Dental implants are extremely versatile and can be used to replace one, several, or all the teeth in the dental arch. They can be restored with a crown, bridge, or denture respectively. Patients often love dental implants because they are a fixed prosthetic that can last a lifetime with proper maintenance.
  • Dental bridges – dental bridges are another tooth replacement option for patients to consider. This restoration is made of porcelain, a material that mimics natural tooth enamel, and include false teeth (pontics) which are fused to the crowns on each side. The dental bridge requires adjacent teeth to support it. With proper care, patients can enjoy their dental bridges for many years after placement.
